PRESSHsinchu, Taiwan, December 3, 2007 — SkyTraq Technology Inc, a fabless AGPS chipset company, today introduced a small-footprint stand-alone type GPS reference module using its low-power Venus6T GPS chipset. The reference module measure 13mm x 16mm , consumes 50mA during signal acquisition and 28mA during continuous tracking. Low current consumption makes it ideal for consumer GPS applications ranging from handset, personal navigation, photo geo-tagging, to security tracking that requires extreme low power, very high-performance, and low-cost. The Venus6T chipset consists of ROM-based Venus624LP single-chip GPS baseband and Venus120 RFIC. It requires low external component count and small footprint PCB. Dedicated signal parameter search engine within Venus624LP is capable of performing 8 million time-frequency hypothesis testing per second; offering ultra-fast 1-second hot start and 29-second cold start under open sky. Advance track engine allows signal detection better than -158dBm, enabling continuous navigation in harsh environments such as urban canyon and under deep foliage. The Venus6T chipset consumes 65mW during signal acquisition and 40mW during continuous tracking. Evaluation kit based on the reference module is available now.
